15 Tips for Improving Your Profile Photo

Based on a discussion in a Danish LinkedIn-group: "What is the 'best' profile photo?.

1. Your profile photo must show your personality.
2. Do not look sexy or shy.
3. People who watch your photo must feel that you are in contact.
4. It is important that your photo makes a clear impression.
5. A 'business-like' photo is good. You may use a background from a relevant company.
6. A hand or both hands in the picture may have a distracting effect.
7. The photo must correspond to the situation
8. Color photos are better than black and white portraits
9. A plain background is very good.
10. The background must not attract attention from the person.
11. It is value for money to have a professional photographer shoot the photo.
12. Do not crop the photo too closely so that the chin or the hair disappear.
13. Frames in the pictures, maybe with rounded corners, may have a negative effect.
14. Use a single photo in your job application
15. It's OK to look young in the photo. The photo must reflect who as a person.
